Facebook Launches Royalty-Free Music and Sound Library For Video Creators

Though Facebook has been fairly silent about its video-oriented plans for quite a while, the social media giant hasn’t lost track of its ambitions. It has today launched a much-awaited video editing tool called ‘Sound Collection‘ that enables creators to add free and original music or sound effects to the videos they post on Facebook and Instagram. This is the company’s latest gameplan to lure video creators away from its competitors.

Facebook Sound Collection will enable video creators to access a set of high-quality audio tracks and sound effects without worrying about any copyright issues. This is because all the music available in this library has been bought by Facebook from established but lesser-known composers and songwriters.

As seen in the screenshot underneath, you can choose from thousands of exclusive music tracks and sound effects. You can use the platform’s discovery tools to narrow down your search for the perfect sound to use in any video by filtering the library on the basis of genre, mood, length and even vocals (whether it is an instrumental or not). The artist, length, tempo, and category is also displayed alongside each track.

You’re free to choose tracks with genres spanning from hip-hop, pop, and jazz to electronic and country music. You can play each track and download the one that will possibly elevate the experience of your videos. The music or sound effects are copyright-free and none of your videos would be pulled down if you only use music from the Sound Collection.

Though Facebook’s original audio collection may not be extensively massive in its present form, it is definitely the perfect step towards building a dedicated video community on the platform. This is yet another move from the social media giant that should worry YouTube, who’s been plagued with a surmounting amount of problems for the past few months. The Google-owned video platform needs to sort out its issues really soon else a competitor can steal its audience.

Facebook’s Sound Collection is rolling out to everyone, starting today. It had already gone live for us and should make an appearance for every user in the coming days. The company plans to grow the library and add more tracks and sound effects in the future as more new video creators join the platform. Let’s hope this lures creators to posting original videos on Facebook or Instagram.
